(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- About 230 children can get ready to start the school year with the help from Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz. On Tuesday, August 16, selected students and their parents will visit the District 12 office to receive their free book bag and school supplies.
The lucky children receiving the book bags were all pre-selected from District 12 schools. The backpacks will be filled with spiral and composition notebooks, paper, folders, binders, erasers, sharpeners, glue sticks, rulers, pens, pencils and other essential school supplies. Florida Marlins' staff will be giving out prizes throughout the event, and Billy the Marlin will stop by to help out and take photos with the children. An assortment of cookies, pastries and refreshments will be available to those in attendance.
This event is sponsored by Commissioner Diaz, the Miami Dolphins, the Florida Marlins, Walmart and Philly Steak Sub Shop, Wholesome Foods, and Panera Bread.
"The start of the school year is an exciting time for students, and these book bags will give them a head start to prepare for a new year," said Commissioner Diaz.
