Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz to host public meeting on redistricting

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz will be hosting a public meeting regarding redistricting in Miami-Dade County. The meeting will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 6 p.m. at the City of Virginia Gardens City Hall, 6498 NW 38th Terrace.

Following the release of the 2010 Census data, Miami-Dade County is in the process of updating the Commission District boundaries to comply with Federal, State and local requirements. There was a double-digit population growth in eight commission districts with District 9 leading the list at 33.1 percent, District 11 following at 20.4 percent, District 8 third at 18.0 percent, and Commissioner Diaz's District 12 at 17.2 percent.

These changes in commission district population will have ramifications on the boundaries of future commission districts. More information on redistricting, as well as a list of public meetings, can be found online at

Please contact Commissioner Diaz's office at 305-599-1200 if you have questions on the August 15 meeting.
