(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz will be hosting another event as part of his “14 Days of Neighborly Love – Inspiring Random Acts of Kindness” initiative. On Friday, February 17, 2012, the commissioner will accompany cardiologist Dr. Juan Rivera at the City of Hialeah Educational Academy, 2590 West 76th Street, at 1 p.m. to provide free blood pressure screenings to teachers and students.
The school specializes in education in law enforcement, fire, and emergency response. Dr. Rivera will be helping both teachers and students to better manage their stress and lead healthier lives, particularly given the demanding career paths the students may take.
The “14 Days of Neighborly Love” initiative, inspired in part by Valentine’s Day, involves businesses and organizations donating their time and services from February 14 to February 27 to residents as a way of showing love for their neighbors and community. Until February 27, residents can take advantage of several services and goods offered at a discount or for free, such as tax preparation, marriage counseling, car washes, and more.
Dr. Rivera is a board certified internist and cardiologist specializing in the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. He is active in community education as the medical and health expert for Telemundo with weekly appearances on Al Rojo Vivo and Noticiero Telemundo. He also updates the blog Corazon Hispano to educate the Hispanic community on disease prevention and lifestyle issues.
