Commissioner Diaz to help dedicate newly renamed fire station

(MIAMI-DADE COUNTY) – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz will join Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) for a ceremony to rename Fire Station #29 in honor of late Firefighter Juan Torga on Thursday, May 29 at 10 a.m. at the fire station, which is located at 351 SW 107th Avenue in Sweetwater.

Firefighter Torga, who died in 2009, spent 20 of his 24 years with MDFR at Station #29. He is remembered as a tireless worker who enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience with his fellow firefighters and subordinates.

“Firefighter Torga went to work every day with a commitment to saving lives and serving the community and his colleagues, and it’s a fitting tribute that the fire station where he spent so many years as a dedicated firefighter should bear his name,” said Commissioner Diaz, who sponsored the resolution to rename the fire station.
