Commissioner Diaz & State Attorney to announce Veterans initiative


(MIAMI-DADE COUNTY) – Miami-Dade County Commissioner José “Pepe” Díaz will join State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, Public Defender Carlos Martinez, Circuit Court Judge Nushin Sayfie, Dr. Spencer Eth of the Veterans Administration, and Lt. Col. Tony Colmenares of the Florida Veterans Foundation at a press conference to announce a new initiative to assist veterans who fall into the criminal justice system.

The press conference will take place on Friday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, 1350 NW 12th Ave., N-419, Miami, FL 33134.

The new veterans’ initiative involves a joint partnership between Miami-Dade’s law enforcement agencies, the State Attorney’s Office and the criminal courts of the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida.

Commissioner Diaz, who serves as Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Military Affairs Board and has been a champion of veterans’ rights, sponsored recent County legislation to identify veterans in the prison system and make them aware of benefits and services available to them.
