Commissioner Diaz to join local officials to condemn growing repression in Venezuela


MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz will join County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Doral Mayor J.C. Bermudez and U.S. Reps. Carlos Curbelo at a press conference to condemn growing repression and human rights abuses in Venezuela on Monday, April 24 at 3 p.m. at City of Doral Government Center, 8401 NW 53rd Terrace.

“We must show our solidarity with the people of Venezuela as the Maduro regime continues to march further down the road of authoritarianism and the violent repression of protesters and political opponents,” said Commissioner Diaz, who also plans to sponsor a resolution urging the federal government to take action to help restore democracy and human rights in Venezuela, as he did in 2014.

Commissioner Diaz’s district includes Doral, which is home to the largest concentration of Venezuelans in the United States.
