The Miami-Dade Sports Commission (MDSC) formally announced that Miami has been selected by the USA Bid Committee to continue in the process of becoming a host city for the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup™. The MDSC will introduce members of the bid committee, review the process to date, and discuss the next steps in bringing the FIFA World Cup™ to Miami.

Miami-Dade County Commission Vice-Chairman Jose "Pepe" Diaz returned from Washington, D.C. on June 25, 2009 after meeting with several Congressional leaders and key officials in the Obama Administration.

Vice-Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz joined Miami-Dade Parks Director Jack Kardys and City of Sweetwater Mayor Manuel M. Maroño for the dedication of the new park on August 4.

The Board of County Commissioners approved an ordinance authored by Vice-Chairman Diaz that provides preference to service-disabled military veterans who are local vendors when the County awards contracts. The item passed 11 – 1.

Commissioner Diaz won approval from the County Commission for legislation (file #: 092356) that urges the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) to reject any requests from property insurance companies that seek to eliminate discounts for hurricane shutters and other hurricane mitigation efforts made by homeowners.
