Vice Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz awarded for his support of “Cruise for Critters” Motorcycle Ride

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Some Miami-Dade’s pets (and their owners) rode in style in support of a good cause. Vice Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz sponsored the Animal Services Department’s 2nd Annual “Cruise for Critters” Motorcycle Ride on Sunday, April 5, 2009. A total of 182 motorcycle enthusiasts (Commissioner Diaz included) began their police-escorted trek at the animal shelter located at 7401 NW 74 Street, and rode to Scotty’s Landing in Coconut Grove. Once at their destination, attendees enjoyed a live band at the restaurant, and participated in raffles, silent auctions, mobile adoptions, and more.

The annual event is organized with the hopes of raising funds to support shelter pets and encourage animal adoptions. This year, approximately $4,600 was raised and four puppies that were taken to the event were also adopted.

Commissioner Diaz was also presented a plaque by the Animal Services Department for his support of the event.

“Our Animal Services Department cares for tens of thousands of lost or abandoned animals every year,” said Commissioner Diaz. “Cruise for Critters provides a tremendous amount of assistance to the department so they can continue to find loving homes for as many animals as possible and provide the utmost care at its shelter.”
