Vice-Chairman Jose "Pepe" Diaz is announcing the 2010 cycle of the Mom and Pop Small Business Grant Program in his district. Small business owners in Miami-Dade's District 12 may be eligible to receive up to $2,500 in funding to financially boost and improve their businesses.
Applications will be available starting Tuesday, January 19, 2010 until Friday, February 5, 2010 at Vice-Chairman Diaz's district office, 8345 NW 12th Street, and on his website at www.miamidade.gov/district12. An original copy of the completed applications must be hand delivered or mailed to Vice-Chairman's district office from Wednesday, February 10 to Friday, February 12, 2010. Applications will not be accepted after 5 p.m. on February 12.
All applicants' businesses must be located in District 12, have been in business for at least one year, have a current Miami-Dade County Occupational License and Municipality License (if applicable) at the time of application, and must not have a delinquent loan with Miami-Dade County, a County Department or County-funded agency. Please call 3-1-1 or visit www.miamidade.gov online and click on the "County Hall" tab and then the "Who is my commissioner?" link to ensure your business location is within District 12.
The Vice-Chairman acknowledged that the local economy is not what it used to be and small businesses all over Miami-Dade are hurting. Thus, he is urging business owners in his district to apply for the grant program. "This year's budget process was difficult, but I am glad my colleagues and I were able to continue funding for the Mom and Pop program," said Vice-Chairman Diaz. "The best way to improve our local economy is to keep money flowing among our small business owners, who can use these funds to ultimately provide better services to their patrons."
In 2009, 58 businesses received financial assistance through Vice-Chairman Diaz's Mom and Pop Small Business Grant Program.
