(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Manny Fernandez is still a South Florida legend as the defensive lineman during the Miami Dolphins’ perfect season in 1972. That’s why Miami-Dade County officials could not let Fernandez leave to his new home in Georgia without a final farewell…and some goodhearted laughs.
Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz attended the Roast of Manny Fernandez, held at Parrot Jungle Island on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. The commissioner presented a proclamation to Manny to honor him for his perfect season and his work in Miami-Dade County.
“It’s sad to see a local legend leave, but he can do so knowing that he’ll always be considered a Miami Dolphin to us,” said Commissioner Diaz, who also chairs the Miami-Dade Sports Commission.
