(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- District 12 caught spring fever! On Saturday, April 9, 2011, more than 1,000 residents joined Commissioner Jose ”Pepe” Diaz to celebrate the beginning of spring at the annual Spring Festival at North Trail Park. Families enjoyed free food, games, bounce houses, live entertainment, and lots of surprises. The children had a blast searching the park for eggs during the annual Easter Egg Hunt and getting their faces painted courtesy of the Miami Children’s Museum. Residents also participated in a raffle to win one of 20 bicycles.
Plenty of special guests attended the festival. Local television news reporter Sandra Peebles of Univision 23 served as the Mistress of Ceremonies. Special appearances were made by the Florida Marlins Mermaids, the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, and the Miami HEAT Dancers. In addition, personnel from over half a dozen Miami-Dade County departments were on hand to assist residents with services, including Commissioner Diaz’s Mobile Office and the Miami-Dade Corrections Unit, which offered free DNA swabs to residents.
Other local organizations set up booths at the festival to give residents information and goodies, like local military branches, Miami Children’s Hospital, BattleField Live, Roxy Theatre Group, Anta’s Fitness & Self Defense, Miami-Dade Police Explorers, Citizens Crime Watch & McGruff, Miami Jazzercise, and Miami-Dade Expressway Authority.
The Annual Spring Festival was made possible through the sponsorships of AMB Property Corporation, Fuentes Consulting Group/National Health Transport Inc., Flagler Development, Florida Power & Light, and Waste Management. Goods and services for the event were donated by Comcast, Pepsi, Pop Chips, Merenguitos, Valentini Ice Creams, and Crystal Springs Water.
