Statement from Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz regarding the death of Osama bin Laden

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
"Last night's events put an end to the existence of someone who crafted one of the darkest chapters in American history.  Although the death of someone is not a reason for celebration, I wholeheartedly rejoice in the thought that for many families affected by his evil acts, last night's news will bring an element of closure to their hearts and minds.

"As the Miami-Dade County military liaison and a Marine, I understand first-hand the many sacrifices men and women in uniform make every day, to ensure we as a nation preserve our democracy.   Sometimes those sacrifices come at a very high price, but thanks to the relentless efforts of those men and women, the mastermind behind the 9/11 terror attacks is no longer able to harm another innocent life, and that to me is priceless.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to all those families affected by this tragedy across our nation and the world.  As we learn the details of last night's operation, let us not forget to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11th, for that is the real meaning of the sacrifice made by those who perished on that fateful day.

"May those of you affected find comfort in the solidarity the world has shown our Country, and may the future NEVER bring another - mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter, friend - the sorrow felt by the loss of a loved one to a senseless death.

"God bless our nation."
