Pathology results from Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz’s surgery come back benign

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
On May 23, 2011, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz underwent surgery after receiving a diagnosis that he had a brain tumor. After a successful surgery, his pathology results came back determining that the tumor was benign. While Commissioner Diaz will not need further treatment, his physician, Dr. Sergio Gonzalez-Arias, Medical Director of Baptist Hospital's Neuro Science Center, has asked that the commissioner not resume a full workload for the next six to seven weeks to fully recover from the surgery.

"I am thankful to God and relieved that I have been given a clean bill of health from my doctor after what has been a very trying time for me and my family," said Commissioner Diaz. "However, my gratitude goes out to all of my colleagues, County employees, residents, hospital staff, and media for their well wishes after the surgery. The residents of my district should know that they can still contact my office for assistance and I will be back in full swing soon."

For more information, please contact Commissioner Diaz's office at 305-599-1200.
