On Wednesday, November 16, 2011, Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz distributed 200 turkeys to selected District 12 students and their families for the Thanksgiving holiday. The turkeys were provided by Contractors Resources, Walmart in Doral, and World Waste Recycling, and other goods were provided by Farm Share.
“Around Thanksgiving, my office reaches out to schools in my district to help students and their families that may be in need over the holidays,” said Commissioner Diaz. “Every child deserves to have a great Thanksgiving meal with their loved ones, and I’m happy to work with local organizations who really exemplify the spirit of the season by donating turkeys to hundreds of people.”
The students that received the turkey donations came from the following schools: John G. DuPuis Elementary, Hialeah Gardens Elementary, Sweetwater Elementary, John I. Smith, Mater Academy Charter Elementary/Middle/High, Ben Sheppard Elementary, West Hialeah Gardens Elementary, Ernest R. Graham Elementary, Marjory Stoneman Douglas Elementary, Eugenia B. Thomas K-8 Center, Milam K-8 Center, Youth Co-Op Charter K-8 Center, Dr. Rolando Espinosa K-8 Center, Doral Academy Charter Middle/High, Jose Marti Middle, Paul Bell Middle, Palm Springs Middle, Hialeah Gardens Middle, Hialeah Gardens High, Mater Lakes Academy Middle/High, Ronald Reagan Doral High.
