On Monday, November 21, 2011, Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz was honored by the Colombian American Chamber of Commerce, where federal, state and local officials also joined. Commissioner Diaz was one of the advocates of the recently passed U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement.  The event took place at the Miami Free Trade zone.

"As a member of the Federal Intergovernmental Policy Advisory Committee on Trade, I was pleased to have worked with federal officials to pass these agreements," said Commissioner Diaz.

Last month, the federal government approved Free Trade Agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea. According to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the agreement with Colombia made 80 percent of U.S. exports of consumer and industrial products to Colombia immediately duty free, with remaining tariffs phased out over 10 years. The agreement with all three countries is expected to support more American jobs, increase U.S. exports, and enhance U.S. competitiveness.
