While the daily grind of commuting to work can be draining, many drivers received a pleasant surprise on the Dolphin Expressway this morning. That’s because Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz and the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) gave 1,000 motorists free SunPass Mini sticker tags and vouchers for a new account with $15 worth of credits at the 97th Avenue toll plaza. The giveaway was all part of Commissioner Diaz’s initiative – “14 Days of Neighborly Love – Inspiring Random Acts of Kindness” – which aims to spread a little joy to Miami-Dade residents. Joining the commissioner to pass out the vouchers was MDX Executive Director Javier Rodriguez.
The “14 Days of Neighborly Love” initiative, inspired in part by Valentine’s Day, involves businesses and organizations donating their time and services from February 14 to February 27 to residents as a way of showing love for their neighbors and community. Until February 27, residents can take advantage of several services and goods offered at a discount or for free, such as tax preparation, marriage counseling, car washes, and more. MDX was one of the many organizations that reached out to Commissioner Diaz to take part in this initiative and bring smiles to residents’ faces.
“This giveaway with MDX really made some drivers’ mornings. You could tell how happy they were to receive a gift that was unexpected and generous, and hopefully they pass that kindness on to someone else,” said Commissioner Diaz. “I’m grateful to MDX for donating the sticker tags and vouchers.”
