(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz applauded news that the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement will go into effect starting May 15, 2012. Commissioner Diaz had been a major advocate for the agreement to become finalized, which will make over 80 percent of U.S. exports of consumer and industrial products to Colombia duty-free. Significant access to Colombia’s $180 billion services market will also be available thanks to the agreement, supporting increased opportunities for U.S. service providers.
Commissioner Diaz is a member of the Federal Intergovernmental Policy Advisory Committee on Trade under the Office of the United States Trade Representative. He supported the passage of free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea, all of which were approved by Congress last October.
“This agreement will have a positive economic impact in Miami-Dade County, where international trade already generates billions of dollars for our community,” said Commissioner Diaz.
