(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz (holding microphone) leads officials from Medley in prayer.
May 3rd is recognized as the country’s National Day of Prayer. This year, Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz organized several events throughout his district where officials and residents were able to participate in worship ceremonies.
The National Day of Prayer was designated by Congress in 1952 to fall on the first Thursday of every May. Commissioner Diaz participated in two events in his district in both Doral and Medley. Other municipalities in his district that hosted special ceremonies were Hialeah Gardens, Hialeah, and Sweetwater. Some of the events were broadcasted remotely on La Nueva 88.3 FM for residents to hear. Local pastors participated in each municipality to lead officials and residents in praying for the community.
“We are fortunate to live in a country where we are able to practice our faiths openly and peacefully,” said Commissioner Diaz. “I’m grateful that so many cities in my district were able to participate.”
