Miami-Dade County Commissioners pass ordinance promoting responsible pet ownership

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Today the Miami-Dade County Commission passed an ordinance which now penalizes fighting dogs and training dogs to fight as an act of cruelty and raises penalties for injuries caused by dogs. Additionally, the ordinance calls for a creation of an online dangerous dog registry to inform the residents of Miami-Dade County about dangerous dogs in their neighborhood.
"At the end of the day I believe in bad owners, not bad dogs." said Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz, who sponsored the ordinance. "These pets are a part of our families and we should do all we can to protect them and the community by being responsible owners."

The ordinance also stipulates the guidelines for declaring a dog aggressive and provides new restrictions on irresponsible owners.
The ordinance will go into effect in 10 days unless the Mayor vetoes it. For more information, please contact Commissioner Diaz's office at 305-599-1200
