Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz presented a commendation to Miami-Dade Police Officer Jonathan I. Dweck at today’s Board of County Commissioners meeting in honor of his valiant efforts to aid a South Florida woman who tragically lost her life last month when a suspect fleeing from police slammed into her car, ejecting her from her car.
“Officer Dweck put his own safety at risk to try to save Maritza Millan Medina, and this is just one example of how our officers go above and beyond the call of duty, risking their lives to protect the public,” Commissioner Diaz said.
On Sept. 18, Antonio Feliu, a murder suspect, crashed into Maritza Millan Medina’s car while he was attempting to flee police on U.S. 27 in Broward County. In an attempt to save Medina’s life, Officer Dweck drove his cruiser into the median, performed CPR and with the help of a Broward Sheriff’s Officer removed her from harm’s way, but despite their best efforts, Medina died on the scene.
Officer Jonathan I. Dweck accepted a commendation at the Oct. 1 County Commission meeting.
