Commissioner Diaz gives Mater Academy a pep talk before its big game against Westland Hialeah High


(MIAMI-DADE COUNTY) – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, District 12, attended a pep rally at Mater Academy today to pump up the school’s football team before its big game against Westland Hialeah High.

Mater Academy will compete with Westland Hialeah High for the first-ever Commissioners Cup, sponsored by Commissioner Diaz, whose district includes Mater Academy, and Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr., who represents the district that includes Westland Hialeah High. In addition to the trophy, each commissioner also will donate $500 to his respective school’s athletic department. The showdown between the two teams will take place on Thursday, October 9 at 7 p.m. at Traz Powell Stadium, 11380 NW 27th Avenue.  Commissioners Diaz and Bovo have recorded a special promo for the event: http://youtu.be/QghlA1Tauwk
