(MIAMI-DADE COUNTY) – Mater Academy Lions defeated Westland Hialeah High Wildcats on Oct. 23 to win the Commissioners Cup for the second year in a row.

The 48-6 victory earned the Lions a trophy presented by Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, who represents District 12 where Mater Academy is located. Commissioner Diaz sponsored the second annual football competition along with Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr. of District 13, which includes Westland Hialeah High. Each commissioner also presented a $1,000 check to his respective school’s athletic department.

“Mater Academy did an amazing job and proved itself on the field once again. Congratulations to the Lions!” Commissioner Diaz said. “I also want to thank Westland Hialeah High and Commissioner Bovo for being great sports. Everybody had a great time.”
