New program at MIA to provide job training to young people with disabilities

(MIAMI, FL) – Young adults with disabilities will obtain work skills and employment training under a unique business-led transition program sponsored by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz and approved by the County Commission on Dec. 15.

Project Victory, which represents an innovative partnership with Miami-Dade Public Schools, will provide individualized job development and placement to students with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 22 based on each student’s experience, strengths, and skills.

Aviation officials at Miami International Airport, the project’s host site, will mentor the students through on-the-job training in tasks deemed appropriate for students’ skill levels. A Miami-Dade Public Schools special education teacher will complement the training by working with each student on specific job skills identified as needing improvement.

“This fantastic program will provide young people with disabilities the skills they need to lead productive, fulfilling lives,” Commissioner Diaz said.
