Commissioner Diaz champions veterans

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz is sponsoring two pieces of pro-veteran legislation that are set for a vote at the Tuesday, Oct. 3 Commission meeting.

The first is an ordinance, co-prime sponsored by both Commissioners Diaz and Rebeca Sosa, to provide paid leave to County employees who are disabled veterans. The second is a resolution urging Congress to eliminate the so-called “widow’s tax,” which reduces the Survivor Benefit Plan annuities for surviving spouses of military personnel who are also receiving Dependency and Indemnity Compensation from the federal government.

“Our veterans and their families have sacrificed so much for us, and we owe them our deepest gratitude and support,” said Commissioner Diaz, who chairs the County’s Military Affairs Board.
