County Commission condemns Venezuelan and Nicaraguan regimes

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – The Miami-Dade County Commission on June 5 approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz condemning the recent sham presidential election in Venezuela. The vote came just one day after the Trump administration called on the Organization of American States to expel Venezuela from the international body.

On May 20, 2018, Maduro won a second presidential term in a widely boycotted election that was condemned as illegitimate by the international community. The next day, President Trump issued an executive order prohibiting Americans from purchasing any debt owed to the government of Venezuela.

Over the years, the Miami-Dade County Commission has passed several resolutions sponsored by Commissioner Diaz condemning Venezuela’s oppressive regime.

“We need to keep up the pressure from the international community until the Venezuelan people are finally able to say good riddance to Maduro’s disastrous socialist regime,” Commissioner Diaz said.

The Commission on June 5 also approved another resolution sponsored by Commissioner Diaz condemning the Nicaraguan government for using violence and intimidation to suppress political opposition.
