MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz delivered much needed relief to Hurricane Michael victims this week, traveling to Tallahassee on Nov. 6-7 with a convoy of five tractor trailers including two Farm Share trucks filled with donated goods, including non-perishable foods, flashlights, batteries and first-aid kits.

The goods were delivered to a Tallahassee warehouse which will serve as a distribution point for relief supplies for hurricane victims in the Panhandle.

Commissioner Diaz thanked Mayor Carlos Gimenez and all the residents, cities, businesses and organizations that participated in the donation drive: Publix, Badia, Dolphin Mall, Sedano’s, Walmart, Farm Share, El Dorado Furniture, CEMEX, Waste Management, Doral Collision, Gus Machado Ford, South Motors BMW, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, the Miami Dolphins, Florida International University, Amadeus Insurance, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, the Beacon Council, Miami-Dade Firefighters Local 1403 and the Miami-Dade County Police Benevolent Association.

“The entire Miami-Dade community really stepped up to show we care and we sympathize because we’ve been there and this could just as easily have been us,” said Commissioner Diaz, who also recently sponsored a resolution to allow County employees to contribute the monetary value of accrued holiday and annual leave time to the county’s Emergency Disaster Relief Fund for the purpose of donating to Hurricane Michael relief efforts in the Florida Panhandle.
