Commissioner Diaz urges state to stop evictions during natural disasters

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Commission on Feb. 4 approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz to urge the Florida Legislature to delay any pending evictions during and after hurricanes and other disasters.

The resolution urges the state to halt any residential eviction proceedings during a declared state of emergency and for 15 days thereafter.

“Declared states of emergency are no time to evict people from their homes,” said Commissioner Diaz, who sponsored similar legislation last year.
