MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz distributed more than 500 face masks to senior citizens in Sweetwater on April 16.

The face mask distributions took place at Sweetwater Tower Apartments, Li’l Abner Apartments, Villa Hermosa Apartments and Los Robles Apartments.

“While seniors are urged to stay at home, sometimes going outside is unavoidable. In those circumstances, we want to make sure they have proper protection for their face to prevent infection while still maintaining a safe distance from others,” Commissioner Diaz said.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the elderly are at higher risk of developing severe illness from COVID-19. The face masks were donated by Sir James Angleton of the Knights of Malta, North American Construction Company and CIMC TianDa. Commissioner Diaz will expand the face mask distribution to other communities in his district if more masks become available.
