(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Natacha Seijas was honored by Florida International University (FIU) as an Honorary Alumna on Tuesday, June 20, 2009 at the Ronald W. Reagan Presidential House on the university's campus in West Miami-Dade. Commissioner Seijas was one of 10 state and local leaders who were recognized for their support of FIU. The Honorary Alumni were nominated by former FIU President Modesto A. Maidique and the school's Alumni Association.
"It is an honor to be considered part of FIU's alumni family," said Commissioner Seijas. "The university has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception and has become one of the leading research universities in our country. I'm proud to support FIU in its endeavors and will continue to ensure that the school serves the South Florida community with quality education."
The other honorees in addition to Commissioner Seijas were: Florida Senate President Jeffery Atwater, philanthropist Betty B. Chapman, President of ASTAR Air Cargo John Dasburg, Florida Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, CEO of Puryear, Inc. Albert E. Dotson, Sr., Founder of JDM Partners LLC Dany Garcia, Founder of The Quantum Group Noel J. Guillama, Chairman and CEO of Leon Medical Centers Benjamin Leon, Jr., and President of Roberts Real Estate Carolyn K. Roberts.
