(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natacha Seijas, Chair of the Jay Malina International Trade Consortium (ITC), greeted the leaders of a delegation of government and private sector representatives on a trade mission from Entre Rios, Argentina. During their three-day stay in early October, they attended a Board of County Commissioners morning presentation where the Chairman of the board, Dennis C. Moss, and other members welcomed their business interest in the Sunshine State.
"It is critical for Miami-Dade County to collaborate in these types of trade and business development missions in order to increase and solidify our bilateral ties with key trading partners such as Argentina," said Commissioner Seijas.
During the Board's presentation, Entre Rios Governor Sergio Urribarri explained the mission had two main goals: the opening of new markets and the search for investors. "We will meet our objective once we receive cooperation between the public and private sector; there is no growth formula without this integration," stated Governor Urribarri. "That is the reason we are here with the businessmen from our province."
"I am pleased to work with Governor Urribarri and his delegation. Through the ITC, we were able to assist them using our database to identify businesses in South Florida that matched their target industries," added Commissioner Seijas.
In 2008, Argentina was Miami-Dade County's number 10 trading partner; the Miami Customs District exchanged $90 billion of merchandise trade which represented a 14% increase from 2007. Of that amount, total trade with Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to approximately $65 billion.
The Jay Malina International Trade Consortium of Miami-Dade County is the county government agency charged with the development of two-way international merchandise trade through the Port of Miami and Miami International Airport. The ITC was designed to function as an umbrella organization, acting as a one-stop clearinghouse for trade development efforts within the County. The vision of the ITC is to promote and strengthen Miami-Dade County as an international trade and cultural center.
This trade mission was organized by the Jay Malina Trade Consortium (ITC) and by the Consul General of Argentina in Miami, Ambassador Miguel Talento, with the aim of increasing trade and institutional ties between Miami-Dade County and Argentina.
