(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Due to concerns from residents who live and commute in the area surrounding NW 87th Avenue and Miami Gardens Drive/NW 186th Street, Miami-Dade’s Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has agreed to change its construction schedule during hours that would not disrupt busy rush hour commutes. Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr. met with WASD officials to work on a compromise, as the department had previously scheduled construction from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on a daily basis until April.
Currently, WASD is working on installing a 36-inch water main in the Palm Springs North area to more efficiently distribute water services to residents. The project will still continue, but traffic will now be detoured during the following times:
Friday, January 27 – Road open after 3 p.m.
Saturday, January 28 – Road closed from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday, January 29 – No construction or road closures will take place
Monday, January 30 – Friday, February 3 – Construction will take place from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Phase I is expected to be complete by February 3, 2012. Before Phase II begins, residents will be notified of any road closures and construction.
“I’m pleased our Water and Sewer Department and my office were able to come to a consensus about changing the construction times to better accommodate residents who live and work in Palm Springs North,” said Commissioner Bovo. “Residents should still expect some delays and plan accordingly. It is a temporary inconvenience, but this project will ultimately bring better water services to residents. We are asking the community to have a little patience as we work to improve our water system.”
