(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade County and the Town of Miami Lakes are celebrating the Groundbreaking for the NW 87th Avenue Roadway improvement located in Commission District 13. The County and Town will host a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the event on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., just south of 164th Street and N.W. 87th Avenue. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade County District 13 Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr., Mayor Michael Pizzi of the Town of Miami Lakes, and officials from both the Miami-Dade County Public Works & Waste Management and Town of Miami Lakes will be attending.
The project consists of widening NW 87th Avenue to a four lane road from NW 154th Street to NW 184th Street. The improvements will include: raised landscaped medians, bicycle lanes, sidewalks, curb and gutter, signalization, pavement markings, decorative lighting, a continuous storm drainage system with two emergency overflows to the Golden Glades Canal at NW 170 Street, the replacement of the existing drainage culvert and the installation of a new 36” water main from NW 154 Street to NW 170 Street.
Funding for this project will be provided by the Charter County Transportation Surtax and is part of the People’s Transportation Project. The construction is scheduled to begin on February 2013 and is to be finalized on April 2015 weather permitting.
