Chairman Esteban Bovo Jr. sponsors resolution allowing County employees to contribute value of leave time to Colombian mudslide relief
MIAMI-DADE – The Miami-Dade County Commission on April 18 approved a resolution sponsored by Chairman Esteban Bovo Jr. to allow County employees to contribute the value of their accrued annual and holiday leave time to the County’s Emergency Disaster Relief Fund for the purpose of donating it to the non-profit organization Give to Colombia, Inc. for relief efforts related to the recent mudslides in Colombia.
“This will give our generous employees an opportunity to help the victims of the devastating mudslides in Colombia while communities continue to recover from the effects,” Chairman Bovo said.
On April 1, 2017, the city of Mocoa, Colombia and the surrounding area were hit with devastating mudslides that resulted in the deaths of over 250 people with hundreds more people injured and missing.
The County has previously adopted resolutions to assist other communities affected by natural disasters, including communities in Ecuador, the Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica, Texas, Louisiana and New York.
