“Loy Krathong / Thai Food Festival 2017” to be celebrated at Thai Temple on Nov. 23
MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Asian American Advisory Board and Wat Buddharangsi will celebrate Loy Krathong / Thai Food Festival on Thursday, Nov. 23 starting at 10 a.m.
Loy Krathong is one of the most colorful celebrations in Thailand. It began in the Sukhothai period (over 700 years ago) and is celebrated on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month. The word “Loy” means “to float” and “Krathong” is a lotus-shaped floater made of banana leaves. The “Krathong” usually contains a candle, three incense sticks, some flowers and coins.
Loy Krathong is a festival where family and friends comes together to celebrate. The highlights of this year's festival besides the Loy Krathong ceremony are live Thai and American music, traditional Loy Krathong dance, Thai classical dance, and an array of delicious, authentic Thai cuisine and desserts are sponsored by members of the Thai temple and local Thai restaurants in the area.
