Board of County Commissioners to address Commissioner Bovo’s ordinance creating an Interfaith Advisory Board and resolution recognizing Day of Prayer

MIAMI-DADE – On May 5, 2020, the Board of County Commissioners will be taking its final action on Commissioner Esteban “Steve” Bovo’s ordinance creating an interfaith advisory board, which would allow the County to acknowledge and celebrate the rich diversity and unity of the various beliefs that are the framework and fabric of Miami-Dade County’s faith-based, religious, and spiritual communities. Commissioner Bovo will also be introducing a resolution recognizing May 7, 2020 as the National Day of Prayer and declaring May 7, 2020 as the County Day of Prayer.

“Miami-Dade County is a diverse melting pot. It is a community comprised of people from many different cultures, and a variety of faiths, religions, and denominations. It is my hope the interfaith advisory board will serve as a means for people from different backgrounds to work collaboratively on matters of common interest to enhanced sensitivity and appreciation for each other,” Commissioner Bovo said. “During these unprecedented times of uncertainty and suffering across the world, people are seeking hope, strength and improved mental well-being through prayer and meditation. In addition to recognizing our country’s National Day of Prayer, I hope we can declare May 7, 2020 as the County Day of Prayer to share the importance of prayer in our lives.”
