(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr. along with School Board Member Perla Tabares-Hantman, District 4, and representatives from AT&T will be participating in an assembly at American Senior High School. The public awareness campaign that AT&T has created, called "It Can Wait", has a simple goal of persuading drivers not to text and drive. Students at American Senior High will have the opportunity to test an online simulator that shows them how their driving is affected by texting and will hear testimony from members of the community.
More than 100,000 times a year, an automobile crashes and people are injured or die while a driver was texting and driving. AT&T is making an ongoing commitment to encourage their 240,000 employees to take a pledge not to text and drive and have extended this commitment within the community. They have launched a social media campaign aimed at spreading this message.
"As parents we must lead by example not to text and drive. It is a simple habit that many of us have. No text is that important to risk the safety of our loved ones in the car." said Commissioner Bovo.
