No Curbside Garbage, Trash and Recycling Collection Services on Independece Day for Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management Customers

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Independence Day is one of three holidays observed each year by Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management employees.  As such, there will be no curbside garbage and trash collection services on Friday, July 4th, 2008, for residents of unincorporated Miami-Dade County and the municipalities of Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Sunny Isles Beach and Sweetwater.

In addition, all 13 Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers and the two Home Chemical Collection Centers will be closed on Friday, July 4th, 2008.

All landfills, Transfer Stations and the Resources Recovery facility will be open on Friday, July 4th, 2008.

Customers are reminded of the following:

  • Customers who normally receive Friday garbage collection should not place their waste at the curbside on Friday, July 4th, 2008. Friday customers may place their waste at the curbside on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 (their next regular garbage collection day).
  • Because of the heavy volume of waste anticipated to be placed at the curbside after the Independence Day Holiday, garbage service may be later in the day than many customers are accustomed to on Monday, July 7, 2008 and Tuesday, July 8, 2008, or in some instances, the garbage may be collected the following day.
  • If Monday collections are not completed, collections will continue on Tuesday, July 8, 2008.
  • If Tuesday collections are not completed, collections will continue on Wednesday, July 9, 2008.

In addition, there will be no curbside recycling collection on Friday, July 4, 2008, for residents of unincorporated Miami-Dade County and the cities of Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, El Portal, Florida City, Medley, Miami Beach, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Miami Springs, North Bay Village, Opa-Locka, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, South Miami, Sunny Isles Beach, Surfside, Sweetwater, Virginia Gardens and West Miami.  Customers who normally receive curbside recycling collection on Friday should hold their recyclables until Friday, July 11, 2008 (their next regular recycling collection day).
