This section is responsible for developing socioeconomic policy recommendations, conducting economic, financial and programmatic research and analyses, managing the development and maintenance of economic databases, providing an interface with the business community, making presentations to the public and conducting pertinent special assignments.

    • Social and Economic Development Council   Adobe PDF
The Social and Economic Development Council presents a brief analysis of socioeconomic conditions in Miami-Dade focusing on the latest available data on key economic indicators. The presentation looks at income inequality, and disparities in housing cost burden and educational attainment. Socioeconomic development in the County critically depends on creating local conditions that support education, entrepreneurship and innovation.
    • Miami-Dade Housing Market Assessment, 2009  Adobe PDF
This presentation provides an overview of current housing market conditions and recaps the recent evolution of the collapse in the local market. The 2004-2006 residential construction boom in the Miami-Dade led to large additions to the housing stock and a corresponding rise in vacant units. The over-supply of housing units underlies the sharp declines in housing prices that began in the single family market segment in December 2006. The analysis concludes that the large inventory of vacant units will continue to put downward pressure on prices through much of 2009 and a meaningful increase in residential construction activity is unlikely before 2010.
    • Economic News Briefing, 12-15-2008  Adobe PDF
This briefing reviews current economic conditions in the U.S. economy, the nation's major trading partners, and the Miami-Dade economy. The nation continues to be mired in a recession that all signs indicate is getting deeper. The job losses that began almost one year ago have accelerated in the last three months, and the County's economy is proceeding along a parallel path. Significant economic stimulus efforts at all levels of government are needed to return to a sustainable growth path.
    • Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) Status Report, 10-21-2008  Adobe PDF
Miami-Dade County has been allocated $62.2 million in NSP funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Department.  NSP allocations were directed to areas of greatest need according to the parameters set forth in Title III of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (HERA).  Five CDBG entitlement cities within the County also received direct allocations totaling $31.6 million. This report updates information that U.S. HUD has provided to grantees and contains a staff analysis of areas of greatest need within Miami-Dade's Community Development Block Grant jurisdiction. Maps showing the incidence and intensity of recent foreclosure activity in Miami-Dade County and a brief summary of eligible uses and activities under this program are provided.
