(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Voters have three more days to take advantage of Early Voting, which will end on Sunday, August 24. 17,518 voters have already cast their ballots during the Early Voting period. Those voters who still want to vote via absentee ballot and did not submit a request to the Miami-Dade Elections Department, can pick one up from the Department's Main Office (2700 NW 87 Avenue). The Department will continue to accept absentee ballots until 7pm on Election Night, August 26. An additional 43,182 voters have already returned absentee ballots.
Voters who plan to vote on Election Day should keep in mind these important points:
-
Unlike during Early Voting, when voters can choose any location, on Election Day voters must vote at their assigned polling place, which is listed on their voter information card. Any voter who is unsure of where to vote should call 3-1-1 or check the Miami-Dade Elections Department website for this information.
-
Voters must provide identification that contains both a photo and signature in order to vote. Acceptable forms of ID include driver's license, ID card issued by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, United States passport, military or student ID card, and retirement center or neighborhood association ID card. If the picture identification does not contain a signature, an additional identification with a signature will be required. If acceptable identification is not available, voters will be asked to vote a provisional ballot. Voters are also always encouraged to bring their voter information card issued by the Elections Department to facilitate the process, but is not required in order to vote.
The Elections Department will have staff on hand to assist voters with any questions or issues that may arise. Voters should call 3-1-1 or visit www.miamidade.gov for more information.
Editor's Note:
-
As always, media are not permitted inside the actual polling room during voting hours. The poll opening (prior to 7am) and closing (after the last voter in line at 7pm has voted) procedures are a public process, and the public and media may be present inside the polling room during those times as long as they do not interfere with the process. If interviewing voters, reporters must remain at least 75 feet from the polling place.
-
Election results will be available on Miami-Dade TV (check local cable listings) and at www.miamidade.gov/elections. The website will always have the most up-to-date information available. However, media who wish to be present at the Elections Department for visual purposes will have access to the Department's media room at 2700 NW 87th Avenue in Doral. Media parking will be available on the south side of the facility, and the adjacent media entrance will be staffed. Media should bring credentials for entry.
-
As in the past, television stations that wish to do live shots from the media room may do so. Miami-Dade TV personnel will be present to assist engineers with the mult boxes that allow them to patch from the outside of the building into the media room. The media room has a clear glass wall with a full view of the tabulation room.
