(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- The Miami-Dade Elections Department is assisting reporters from as far away as Hong Kong, Kenya and Australia. The Department is in the final stages of preparation for next Tuesday’s Presidential Election, and in order to accommodate the media, we would like to provide the following guidelines and reminders:
-
Media that are planning to broadcast live from Miami-Dade Elections Headquarters on November 3-5, must contact the Miami-Dade Office of Communications by Monday, November 3, to arrange time and lot access needed for space set-up. Space will be granted on a first-come first-served basis. Please note space is limited. Miami-Dade TV will have technical coordinators available to assist media with live/sat truck parking and stand up locations. To coordinate, please contact Owen Torres at 305-877-8203.
-
Media who wish to be present at Headquarters for visual purposes will have access to the Department’s media room at 2700 NW 87th Avenue in Doral throughout the day. The media room will have a limited number of computers available for journalists to use. Only the Elections Department website and results page are accessible. Also available, are a limited number of phone lines, as well as a public wi-fi network.
-
Election results will be available on Miami-Dade TV (check local cable listings) and at www.miamidade.gov/elections. Both sources will always have the most up-to-date information available. Results will be posted beginning at 7:15 p.m. and will be updated approximately every 20 minutes thereafter. The first report will be the absentee ballot results, followed by Early Voting results and then precinct results as they are reported.
-
If you are planning to visit precincts during voting hours, media are not permitted inside the polling room while voting is underway. Video and/or photographs of inside the polling place can only be taken from the doorway as long as it does not interfere with the voting process. Interviews with voters, campaigners, candidates, etc. can only be conducted outside of the 100 foot boundary line from the polling location per state law.
The Elections Department will attempt to accommodate all media requests to the extent possible. Please contact Marie Bertot at 786.218.4682 or Owen Torres 305.877.8203 with any requests.
