Most Frequently Answered Voter Questions on November 4 Election Day

Miami-Dade County 3-1-1 Answer Center Specialists have received almost 10,000 elections related calls by the time lunch rolled around. The 3-1-1 Answer Center will be open until 10:00 p.m. this evening. Since activating this morning, nearly 11,500 calls have been received.  Below are some of today’s most frequently asked questions to 3-1-1 operators and answers.  Election information, Election Day results and more are available by calling 3-1-1 or by logging on to www.miamidade.gov/elections.

Elections Day FAQs:

Q: Where is my voting precinct?
A: Voters can go to the Voter Tool Kit available on www.miamidade.gov/elections by clicking on the Voter Tool Kit, voters can locate their precinct by entering their street address.
   
Q: Has my absentee ballot been counted?
A: Voters can check on the status of their submitted absentee ballots by clicking on the "absentee ballot tracker" in the Voter Tool Kit.
   
Q: What is my party affiliation?
A: By calling 3-1-1 and providing personal identifying information, callers can get their party affiliation. However, all voters regardless of party affiliation can vote in this General Election.
   
Q: What time are elections polls open on November 4, 2008?
A: Precincts are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All voters in line by 7 p.m. are guaranteed their right to vote.
   
Q: Do you know my wait time in line for voting today?
A: Wait times vary by precinct. So far, the lines on Election Day are varying from 15 minutes to 2 hours.
   
Q: If I am not a registered voter, can I vote?
A: No. In order to vote, citizens must be registered. The registration deadline for the General Election of November 4 was October 6, 2008.
   
Q: Why must I turn my absentee ballot in to Doral or the Downtown Elections location?
A: State law requires that on Election Day, absentee ballots must be turned in by voters at the Election Department located in Doral or at the Stephen P. Clark Center in downtown Miami no later than 7 p.m. tonight.
   
Q: Do I have to vote in my precinct polling place or can I go anywhere to vote?
A: Unlike during early voting, on Election Day voters must visit their assigned precincts. Precinct locations are available by using the online Voter Tool Kit.
