Tomorrow is Election Day

Important reminders for Absentee/Election Day voters and media covering Election Day

(MIAMI, November 4, 2013) – The Miami-Dade County Elections Department is “Election Ready.”  Poll workers have been trained, equipment has been tested, and polling places have been setup.  All 829 precincts will be open tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. awaiting voters. 

Voters who have not yet voted should remember the following before heading to the polls tomorrow: 

• All registered voters in Miami-Dade County are eligible to vote in this election.
• Voters should go to their assigned precinct, which can be found on their Voter Information Card, by going to the Elections Department website, or by calling 3-1-1. 
• Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 
• Voters must bring identification that contains a photo and their signature. Acceptable forms of ID can be found on the Elections Department website or by calling 3-1-1. If the voter does not have ID available, they will be asked to vote a provisional ballot. While the Voter Information Card is not required to vote, it can help expedite the check-in process, so bringing it is always encouraged. 
• If you have requested an absentee ballot, but have not returned it, you may still vote at your precinct.  Please remember to bring your unvoted absentee ballot with you and give it to a poll worker. 

Those voters who requested an Absentee Ballot and have not yet returned it to our office are encouraged to deliver them in person no later than 7:00 p.m. to the Elections Department Headquarters (2700 NW 87^th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33172) or the Satellite Office at the Stephen P. Clark Center (111 NW 1^st Street, Miami, Florida 33128). 

Media Reminders

Media entities are reminded the following before heading to polls for Election Day coverage: 

• A complete Polling Places List is available on the Elections Department website. However, the following media-friendly precincts are recommended on Election Day, given the facility layout and visual accessibility:
  • Senator Gwen Margolis Community Center, 1590 NE 123 St, North Miami, FL 33161
  • Miami-Dade County Fire Station #56, 16250 SW 72 St, Miami, FL 33193
  • South Shore Community Center, 833 - 6 St, Miami Beach, FL 33139
  • Hialeah Fire Station #2, 4200 E 8 Ave, Hialeah, FL 33013
  • Phichol Williams Community Center  951 SW 4^th  Street Homestead, FL 33030
     
• As always, the poll opening (prior to 7:00 a.m.) and closing (after the last voter has voted) procedures are a public process, and the public and media may be present inside the polling room during those times as long as they do not interfere with the procedures.
   
• During voting hours, media is not permitted inside the actual polling room. Video and/or photographs can only be taken from the door or outside the polling place. News interviews with voters, campaigners, candidates, etc can only be conducted 100 feet from the polling location. Exit polling may be conducted at 75 feet from the polling location.
   
• Election results will be available on the Elections Department homepage and on Miami-Dade TV (check local cable listings). Both sources will always have the most up-to-date information available.  Results will be available beginning at 7:15 p.m. and will be updated approximately every 15-20 minutes thereafter. The first reporting will be the Absentee Ballot results, followed by Early Voting results and then precinct results as they are determined.
   
• Media who wish to be present at the Elections Department for visual purposes on Election Day will have access to the Department’s media room at 2700 NW 87^th Avenue in Doral. We will attempt to accommodate all media requests.
   
• Media parking will be available on the south side of the facility for access to the mult-box and parking will also be available on the east side of the facility.  Parking entrance will be staffed by security, and please bring credentials for entry.
