The voter registration deadline for the Primary Election is July 28th
(MIAMI, July 24, 2014) — The act of voting is a defining moment, one that allows your voice to be heard on the Federal, State and Local level. That said, the Primary Election will be held on August 26, 2014. In order to participate in this important election, you must be a registered voter by the deadline of July 28, 2014.
To register to vote, residents must:
- be 18 years or older (pre-registration begins at 16);
- be a U.S. citizen;
- be a permanent resident of Miami-Dade County. There is no specific time requirement to live in Miami-Dade County to be considered a permanent resident.
Please also note that Florida is a closed primary state. This means that only voters who are registered members of a political party may vote for their respective party’s candidates. The August 26 Primary Election ballot not only has party-specific races, but also nonpartisan races that are applicable to all registered voters, regardless of party affiliation.
“All Miami-Dade County registered voters are encouraged to vote in this election,” stated Supervisor of Elections Penelope Townsley.
In addition, anyone interested in changing their party affiliation for this election must do so by the deadline of July 28.
With the deadline just four days away, the most convenient option for those interested in registering to vote or make a political party change is to visit the Elections Department website www.iamelectionready.org and click on “Register to Vote.” After completing the online form, it must be printed, signed, and mailed to the Elections Department at:
