Important reminders for absentee voters in Miami-Dade County
(MIAMI, August 12, 2014) – Those voters who are choosing to vote by absentee ballot for the August 26, 2014, Primary Election are reminded of these important tips:
- The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is next Wednesday, August 20, 2014 by 5 p.m.
- You can no longer drop off your completed absentee ballot at an Early Voting location. You can only surrender your ballot and vote at an Early Voting location.
- Alternatively, you may return your completed absentee ballot via postal mail (postage paid by Miami-Dade County), or in person at the following locations:

- If you forget to sign the outside envelope of your absentee ballot, Florida law now allows you the opportunity to submit an affidavit to cure the unsigned absentee ballot. The affidavit must be completed and submitted to the Elections Department along with a copy of your valid and current identification by 5 p.m. on the day before the election, Monday, August 25, 2014. The affidavit and additional instructions may be found online at http://www.miamidade.gov/elections/library/forms/absentee-ballot-no-signature-en.pdf.
- Florida law now prohibits the Elections Department from issuing absentee ballots at Elections Headquarters on Election Day, Tuesday, August 26, 2014, unless the voter executes an affidavit affirming an emergency preventing the voter from going to their assigned polling place.
- DO NOT give your absentee ballot to anyone other than an authorized designee. Voting should remain between the Elections Department and you.
