Two Senior White House officials to speak at Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit on Wednesday, October 1


(MIAMI, September 30, 2014) – We are pleased to announce that Dr. John P. Holdren, the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Michael Boots, Acting Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), will be keynote speakers during the 6th Annual Southeast Florida Climate Leadership Summit, scheduled to take place Wednesday, October 1, and Thursday, October 2, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida.

Dr. Holdren oversaw the recent development and release of the Third National Climate Assessment, the government’s most comprehensive federal review of the latest climate science, evaluation of current impacts of climate change on the United States, and outlook for future impacts. His keynote address on October 1, will focus on the National Climate Assessment and its relevance to planning efforts in southeast Florida and the Nation.

In addition to his role as CEQ Acting Chair, Boots serves as co-chair of the President’s State, Local, and Tribal Leaders Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience (Task Force).  His keynote address on October 1, will discuss the work of the Task Force and other elements of the President’s Climate Change Action Plan.

“We particularly look forward to welcoming Dr. Holdren and Mr. Boots to southeast Florida and learning from their extensive knowledge and expertise,” said Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “We are fortunate to have several key federal officials and esteemed Task Force members presenting at our Summit, including Broward County Commissioner, Kristin Jacobs.”

Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami Beach are the hosts of this year’s Regional Climate Leadership Summit, in partnership with the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact (Compact), a collaboration of the four counties of southeast Florida, local municipalities, and other stakeholders. The Compact is one of the nation’s leading examples of local government action to address climate change.

The Summit takes place Wednesday, October 1, and Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida.
