Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church is the home of one of Miami's oldest African-American congregations, organized in March 1896, three months before the city was incorporated. It is one of the oldest remaining African American congregations in the city. Since its founding, the church has included some of Miami's most prominent African-American residents among its members.
Although construction began in 1927 on this massive Mediterranean Revival style church, the building was not completed until 1943 due to the congregation's “pay-as-you-go” policy. Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
