Founded on September 18, 1896, D.A. Dorsey served as one of its founders. Mt. Zion was one of the first meeting places for the Boy and Girl Scouts, as well as for Dr. Martin Luther King and others involved in the Civil Rights Movement. Mt. Zion Baptist Church is one of the few examples of Mediterranean Revival style found in the black community of Overtown. The place of worship of one of Miami's oldest black congregations. (NR)
