On the weekend of August 1st, filmmakers across South Florida will be competing in the 48 Hour Film Project’s tour to find “The Best 48 Hour Film of 2008.” Local teams will have just 48 hours to make a short movie – from writing and shooting to editing and adding music. The films will then have their Big Screen Premier just days later at the Byron Carlyle Theater in Miami Beach.
The 48 Hour Film Project is held in over 70 cities across the world. Films are eligible for awards, such as Best Direction, Best Acting, Audience Favorite, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. One team will be selected as the City Winner and will go on to compete against teams from other cities. The Top 5 teams will go on to compete in the HD Filmmaker Showdown sponsored by Panasonic. The winning filmmaker of the Showdown will receive a new Panasonic HD Camera as well as distribution for the film.
48 teams are expected to compete this year in South Florida. The Miami screening will be on August 6th and 7th at The Byron Carlyle Theater. Please let me know if you would like to attend.
I would like to extend the invitation not only to attend the screening of the films, but to spend the weekend on set with any of the local film teams. Please let me know if you would like to speak to any of the local filmmakers competing in the weekend.
