On Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007, the Miami-Dade Film & Entertainment Advisory Board and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Creative Industries Committee hosted “Creative Networking”, an event designed to promote community building among the creative industries, which includes film and entertainment. The end result was a successful event where Will Edwards, Chair of the Film & Entertainment Advisory Board shared the accomplishments of the revitalized board in its first year of existence and their vision for the growth of the industry.

The Miami-Dade Film & Entertainment Advisory Board, re-formed after a five year hiatus, is comprised of group of film and entertainment professionals. This seventeen member Board was created with the purpose to advise the Mayor, County Commission and Office of Film & Entertainment on policies and issues affecting the Film and Entertainment production industry in Miami-Dade County as they relate to that industry’s economic viability. Some of the issues that are currently being addressed by the board are incentive legislation, hurricane insurance, access to financing and community building.

According to Will Edwards, Chair, Miami-Dade Film & Entertainment Advisory Board, "One of the objectives of the Film & Entertainment Advisory Board in its first year of existence is to create a sense of community among the local film and entertainment industry via community building and this event is the first strategic step to reaching our goal. “

“Creative Networking”, brought together hundreds of industry professionals with the goal of offering them an opportunity to network and forge relationships, generate business leads and future partnerships. The overall theme for the evening was nurturing the growth of the creative industries in order to solidify Miami-Dade County as a world class creative center.

Tony L. Rogers, Chair of the GMCC Creative Industries Committee said, "I believe the Creative Industries are key to Miami's position as a world class city in this millennium. So I could not be more excited about our role in promoting the Creative Industries in this community at this time."

The event was attended by approximately 200 film and entertainment industry professionals and other members of the creative industries who had the opportunity to network, meet the Film & Entertainment Advisory Board and were treated to a “Conversation with Craig Robins,” President of DACRA Development.

“Creative Networking” was sponsored by Bacardi, City of Miami Mayor’s Office of Film & Cultural Affairs, Dacra and The Miami Design District, FilMiami, Nationwide and Ruden McClosky Law Firm
