"Stimulus Bill" - American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)
Changes to the tax laws made by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) require employers to implement new withholding tax tables, developed by the Internal Revenue Service, as soon as possible but no later than April 1, 2009. This is being done in relation to the Making Work Pay credit which is one of the key tax provisions included in the ARRA. Miami-Dade County has implemented such changes to its Payroll System effective for all County wage payments dated on or after March 13, 2009.
The ARRA created this new tax credit of up to a maximum of $400 for working individuals and up to $800 for married couples filing jointly. To accomplish this, the new withholding tables will result in additional take home pay for many of our employees. Higher income employees will see minimal or no change. The Credit is phased out for individuals with a modified adjusted gross income (AGI) in excess of $75,000 and for married couples filing joint returns with a modified AGI in excess of $150,000.
